It’s been a while since I have posted on my lifestyle section so I thought I would share a post ’10 things you may not know about me’ so here goes…
1). I sleep with my glasses under my pillow. I wear contact lenses daily so I don’t have to wear glasses all day. However, come night time I’ll take out my lenses, put on my glasses and then once I am in bed, I’ll put my glasses under my pillow.
When Mark and I first started dating he asked me why I do this ritual and my response was something like ‘well if I need to get up quickly in the middle of the night I know exactly where they are. I just reach under my pillow and ta da, I can see.’ The unfortunate thing is, if I wriggle around a lot in the night they sometimes end up in his arm, or legs or even his eye, I think on one occasion that happened. I also wear them in the shower…only to the point when they steam up and then I take them off!
2). I procrastinate a lot. It’s such a bad trait to have especially when it comes to personal situations. In work, I am a totally different person. Deadlines are met and I have to get things done straight away. Outside of work though, I spend a lot of time telling myself I’ll do that later, that certain thing I put off then turns into a week later, a month later and before you know it I will have a mini panic that I haven’t done it.
3). I admire hard workers. To get up and go to work is and always has been part and parcel of my life. If you have ever walked around a big city for example, the one near me London, I pass thousands of people on my travels and honestly at something like 6am I think to myself, ‘you know what this is what it’s all about, it’s hard graft but you have to do it’. I admire the doer’s and go getters and those that work bloody hard to pay the bills. Only you can do this for you and your family or friends. You.
4). Pizza with Hummus. If we throw a pizza in the oven, often we throw it in you know. I’ll have a pot of hummus at the ready to dip it in. I don’t know if this is a thing, but I like it. Olive oil hummus to be precise. I’ll dip pizza slices in it or on occasion spread it on top of the pizza more specifically a spicy pizza, I think hummus calms down the flavours. I love hummus and can go through a pot with cheesy doritos too. I fancy a pizza now I am writing this.
5). I favour Autumn/Winter weather to Spring/Summer weather, especially the change in seasons from Summer to Autumn. The clocks changing is a bit of a bummer bringing the darker night’s but I prefer getting warm and layering up rather than spending ages cooling down with hardly anything on. I also like the leaves falling and the beautiful colours that come with the change in season.
I do encourage Mark to throw leaves in the air to get a picture of him in the act with leaves falling around him. To his dislike may I add. I also like wearing a beanie hat and I can’t wait to wear a scarf that Mark bought me ages ago that I haven’t had the opportunity to wrap myself up in. I am totally the complete opposite to Mark, he’s loves the sun!
Disclaimer *These seasons only apply in the south of the country anything south of Watford generally gets better weather in all seasons than in the north in my opinion (UK)*
6). I rarely give people a second chance. It’s the stubborn gene in me. I am very much once bitten twice shy kind of person. It doesn’t cost anyone money to have manners, nor does it give anyone the right to be rude unnecessarily. Dependant on the situation I will do everything in my power to remove myself from negative situations because quite frankly, I haven’t got the time or head space for drama’s.
7). I studied performing arts, the result A*. I remember it well. Standard growing up question that we all have been asked, ‘what do you want to do when you grow up?’ A red coat I would reply. “Butlins” people would immediately respond with. ‘Yep, that’s right.’ Then I decided I wanted to be an actress on the stage in musical theatre.
My thoughts repeatedly were ‘Stop Melita, how will you make money? This won’t pay much if I don’t hit the big time’ So I stopped. I wish I had the opportunity to tell my younger self to keep going. I think crying on demand in my soliloquy really helped with my exam results though. Instead, I started my own business Melita Latham London selling luxury travel accessories which was also a dream of mine.
8). My driving skills are questionable. I’ll drive, but only if I really have to. I am so used to getting about on the underground and trains that it’s kind of the way I get about. To add, I’d choose walking over driving too. I like the fact I have spare time on my hands to catch up on emails whereas driving means that I don’t have the opportunity to do that. I do admit that I am not the best driver in the world. Mark will agree and only when forced to get in the car with me he will.
9). I am a Google Maps Local guide. Like most people, I have the google maps app on my phone which I use religiously when I am in need of directions. I am a google maps guide level 6. Google map guide levels go up to 10.
I upload reviews of places I have been this way rather than the old school TripAdvisor app. Over a short period of time, I have had 916,744 views on the images I have posted. I am slowly but surely making it to 1 million views. It’s a pretty boring fact about me but I am thrilled that nearly 1 million people have seen my photography skills and possibly enjoyed the places I have been to after reading and seeing my posts.
10). I recently sprained my ankle dancing in the bedroom on my own. To be honest it is a really long story but to cut it short it’s not the first time. Mark and I had a break away when we first started dating. Whilst walking on cobbled streets wearing boots, the uneven ground was pretty tricky to walk on with ease, in mid conversation with Mark I lost stability, my ankle went over to one side and I hit the ground knees first, arms then face in broad daylight. Mark didn’t use his special powers at that point to save me although he tells me he tried.
Turns out I had torn a ligament which took over a year to heal. So, the first year of our relationship I couldn’t wear high heels comfortably. Slowly but surely my ankle got back to normal until I decided to do some pretty impressive dances moves which consisted of jumping up and down, spinning around on one foot and high kicks. What followed was the entire night resting my ankle and ice packs. NIGHTMARE! I can say now it’s so much better.
Bonus fact about me I choose Branston beans over Heinz beans all day long!
So there you have it, 10, well, 11 things you may not have known about me!
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
With Love Mel x
