Estelle Manor Review: Oxfordshire’s Most Talked-About Retreat

Hidden within the Oxfordshire countryside, Estelle Manor has quickly become one of the UK’s most talked-about luxury destinations. With its grand historic manor house, expansive grounds and members-club atmosphere, the hotel has attracted a mix of curious travellers and high-profile guests since opening.

My husband and I recently spent a night there to see what the experience was really like. From arriving along the sweeping gravel driveway to cycling around the estate after a couple of mojitos, the stay had moments that felt both indulgent and slightly unexpected.

Here’s what it was like spending a night at Estelle Manor.

Arriving at Estelle Manor

Driving up the long gravel driveway, the manor house slowly reveals itself across the green lawns. The setting feels secluded and elegant, immediately giving the impression that this is somewhere designed for a special escape rather than a typical countryside hotel.

As we arrived, one detail immediately caught our attention – a helicopter parked on the grass near the entrance. Whether it was a guest arrival or simply part of the estate’s usual scene, it certainly added to the sense of exclusivity.

That feeling isn’t entirely surprising when you hear that celebrities such as Lewis Hamilton and Kim Kardashian have recently stayed at Estelle Manor. The hotel clearly attracts a high-profile clientele, and the atmosphere reflects that. There’s a discreet, members-club feel to the property, and guests are encouraged to enjoy the space privately – including being mindful about photography inside.

Checking In and Our Room

Check-in was quick and welcoming, and we were given a map of the estate to help navigate the property. This turned out to be useful because Estelle Manor is much larger than it first appears, with restaurants, leisure areas and gardens spread across the grounds.

Our room was slightly smaller than we expected, though as we were only staying for one night it didn’t feel like a major issue. What it lacked in size it made up for with the view overlooking the maze in the gardens, which added a charming touch to the setting.

After dropping off our bags, we were ready to explore.

Drinks by the Pool

One of the central social areas at Estelle Manor is the main bar, which sits beside the outdoor heated swimming pool.

The pool area is surrounded by sun loungers and parasols, giving it a relaxed resort feel that would be particularly appealing during the warmer months. Even during our spring visit you could imagine this space becoming lively in summer.

We settled down with mojitos and a few glasses of wine, enjoying the atmosphere and the view across the pool. A couple of drinks soon turned into a few more, and before long we found ourselves in that familiar holiday mood where everything feels like a good idea.

Including exploring the grounds by bicycle.

Cycling Around the Estate

Estelle Manor offers bicycles for guests, which makes it surprisingly fun to explore the wider estate.

With the sunshine appearing in between the clouds and the early signs of spring across the gardens, it felt like the perfect moment to take a ride. The flowers were just beginning to bloom, and bees were already busy moving from blossom to blossom.

Cycling through the grounds gave the estate a slightly different feel – less formal and more like a relaxed countryside retreat.

One of the stops along our ride was the on-site shop, which sells a mixture of Estelle Manor merchandise and products from smaller independent brands. Inside there was an eclectic mix of clothing, hats, shoes, socks and ceramics.

I couldn’t resist buying a tote bag printed with “Mind Your Manors”, which has since become my go-to bag for everyday shopping.

Dinner at the Chinese Restaurant

As the evening approached, we returned to our room to freshen up before dinner. By then the day had turned into a warm spring evening, with the countryside feeling calm and golden just before sunset.

We had reservations at the Chinese restaurant on site, one of the dining options available at the manor.

What made the evening memorable wasn’t just the meal itself, but the people we met. We struck up a conversation with a lovely couple at the next table, and before we knew it the entire evening had passed chatting and sharing stories.

Eventually we headed back to our room, ready for a restful night before checking out the following morning.

Is Estelle Manor Worth Visiting?

Estelle Manor is certainly a place worth experiencing at least once. The historic architecture, expansive grounds and exclusive atmosphere make it feel like a destination designed for special occasions or celebratory weekends.

However, it is also quite costly for what it offers, and while we enjoyed our stay, it isn’t somewhere I personally feel the need to return to frequently.

I imagine the manor becoming far more vibrant in the summer months, when the pool area and gardens are in full swing. In contrast, winter might actually be the best time to visit if you’re looking for a quieter countryside escape focused on rest and relaxation.

For us, it was a nice experience and one we’re glad to have ticked off.

Spring and summer are ideal if you want to enjoy the gardens, outdoor pool and cycling around the estate. Winter visits may be quieter and better suited to those looking for a peaceful countryside retreat.

Ideal Stay
A one-night or weekend stay works well, especially if you plan to enjoy dinner and drinks on the property.

Booking Tip
Rooms can book up quickly during peak seasons, particularly weekends, so it’s worth planning ahead if you want to secure your preferred dates.

Final Thoughts

Estelle Manor sits somewhere between luxury countryside hotel and private members club, and that balance gives it a unique character.

Whether you’re visiting for a special occasion, a countryside escape or simply out of curiosity about one of the UK’s most talked-about hospitality destinations, it’s certainly a place that sparks interest.

For us, it was an enjoyable one-night stay filled with good food, warm spring air, unexpected cycling adventures and a few mojitos along the way.

And sometimes that’s exactly what a countryside escape should be.
