Perfection at Pascere! Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to meeeee.
My friend and I had a meal out in Brighton at this fabulous place called Pascere. This happened by chance actually due to a restaurant that failed massively on the customer service front not too far from Pascere. So, we left that restaurant to then find this gem of a place. I am so glad we found it. We had no reservation but fortunately there was room for us.
I love Brighton, I was born there and although I don’t see much of Brighton very often it was great for me to start my birthday treats there.
My friend would say we are like chalk and cheese. (I’m being the cheese though instead of chalk) I think we are very similar however, when it comes to food we are both on the same page. We love our food.
Pascere is an independent restaurant in Brighton bringing elegance in Duke Street not too far from the lanes.
As we entered we were greeted with a huge smile from a member of staff. I remember thinking WOW she has a great smile and it was highlighted even brighter with her beautiful red lipstick. Instantly I thought well this is far better customer service than the last place we went into.
We were seated downstairs (There are two floors) on beautifully soft seats, the decor so wonderful with the pepper pots matching the restaurant wall colour. I liked it.
We were given our wine and water for the table and then looked at the menu. I recall my friend saying to me that the portion sizes will mean that we will be getting a kebab after. Little did we know we were in for a real good treat.
Don’t be put off though guys by the smaller portions because believe me it will fill you right up! Ever heard the sayings “Little and often” & “eat slowly” this is a perfect evening meal or afternoon lunch.
So we ordered our starters and mains. My mouth is watering now thinking about this meal again.
We had complimentary butternut squash canapés (I can’t remember the exact name) Mmmm so delicious.
Then in preparation for our starters which was Beef Cheek tortellini with mushroom puree and beef consommé we were given bread.
This was not any old bread, white and brown rolls. Small like dough ball sized. I wish I can remember exactly what they were but because we didn’t listen properly we had to let our taste buds do the talking.
I just remember repeating this one tastes like Caramac, the chocolate bar Caramac, really getting excited by this as its my favourite chocolate bar. It was divine. “It’s definitely Caramac bread” My friend just like looking at me in disgust whilst I’m speaking with my mouthful getting overly excited. The other bread roll tasted like gravy that also was heavenly.
Well, that was a really exciting start to our meal thats for sure. The starter was incredible. The beef it was so gorgeous we used our spoons to mop up the consommé I didn’t leave one drop.
All the while I must add the service was excellent. The staff there are really fantastic.
Main course- I went for chicken and my friend went for Lamb, I think. To be honest after one mouthful of my main I forgot everything and focused on the food. The Chicken was incredible it came with baby carrots, carrot fregola and hay mayonnaise. Seriously. It was perfect.
I had a few glasses of red wine by that point so started to get emosh as they say. I just don’t want to be another year older, I didn’t want my meal to end, I have so much going on in my head that everything seems really overwhelming recently. However, I pulled myself together for my dessert. CHOCOLATE.
My friend had a strawberry dessert, I tried a bit of that and it was delicious. I failed to share my chocolate dessert but that’s ok I told myself.
At this point we were both full up. Not one more mouthful of food would be possible to swallow. It tasted amazing. It was presented beautifully. The staff were incredible and when the air con got a bit too chilly, they even turned it off for a while just for us. How lovely.
The price was so reasonable too. Including a bottle of wine and a three course meal with 2 complimentary dishes each and coffee it was really great value for money.
If you check out my Instagram and Twitter page you will be able to see more photo’s of the food we ate. I would strongly recommend you try this place out.
Make a reservation though as you may not be as lucky as us getting our seats as they were really busy.
